Description

The C.L.E. Prieto is one spicy and interesting cigar. Prieto is Nicaraguan slang for “dark,” and this deep brown, maduro cigar is a flavorful cigar we score 4 out of 5 on the boldness scale.

I’m not just getting my new cigars from cigar clubs and online cigar subscriptions, I also grab random sticks off the shelf at my local lounges. And that’s how I found the C.L.E. Prieto by Christian Eiroa.

It turns out that the C.L.E. Prieto Robusto has a pretty solid reputation. While I don’t quite trust Cigar Aficionado’s rating system, the Prieto did earn a spot in their top cigars of 2017.

The wrapper is well-marbled and the cold draw is spicey, so let’s dive in.

    CigarScore: 4
    Brand: C.L.E.
    Line: Prieto
    Size: 5 x 50, box-pressed
    Cut: Guillotine
    Light: Torch

    Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut Broadleaf
    Binder: Nicaragua
    Filler: Nicaragua

    Final Thoughts:
Ginger. That’s the flavor I got the most out of the C.L.E. Prieto. Like a gingersnap cookie, the Prieto was quite delightful. The burn was good, the draw was good, but neither was 100% perfect. But, for a ~$7 cigar, I really enjoyed this stick.

The only thing I’d change about this cigar would be the flavors. Had the taste of ginger been toned down and the sweetness from the Nicaraguan tobacco has been elevated, this cigar would’ve gotten my highest score. However, that’s not the case.

But, with that said, I’d happily smoke a C.L.E. Prieto with you the next time we meet, and for that reason, the Prieto earns a CigarScore of 4.
