    Initial Thoughts:
I received the Crowned Heads La Imperiosa Double Robusto as a gift from a friend who’s had this cigar in his humidor since 2015.

After removing the cigar from the aged and yellowed cellophane, one of the first things I noticed about the La Imperiosa was how shiny and oily the wrapper was. However, after snipping the end, the draw was a little tight.

The La Imperiosa’s cold draw flavors were of semi-sweet chocolate and plastic, but I’ve learned that you can’t judge the quality of a cigar by the flavors you get before you torch it. (That’d be like judging the quality of a steak by how it smells when raw. Eww.) But, as soon as I started to toast the foot, I was greeted with amazing aromas.

The initial flavors of the Crowned Heads La Imperiosa were earthy, leathery, and spicy with hints of chocolate on the retrohale, and I suspect this stick is chock full of Nicaraguan goodness. My only complaint so far is the tight draw.

NOTE: The Crowned Heads La Imperiosa is the same blend as the 2014 Las Calaveras Limited Edition cigar. If you’ve had that cigar, you know what to expect with the La Imperiosa.

    CigarScore: 5
    Brand: Crowned Heads
    Line: La Imperiosa

    Cut: Guillotine

    Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro
    Binder: Nicaragua
    Filler: Nicaragua

While the draw of the La Imperiosa started off rather tight, after about 20 minutes, it opened up and I started to be able to really taste the cigar. Going into the middle of the cigar, the flavors were smooth and creamy, but not sweet, and luxurious.

    Final Thoughts:

After sitting, resting, and aging for nearly 5 years, the Crowned Heads La Imperiosa Double Robusto is a great cigar. The flavors remained spicy, but there was a creaminess that came through that was quite nice.

However, the tight-ish draw was a struggle at several points throughout the cigar. Additionally, there were a few times when the La Imperiosa developed an uneven burn, but I never had to relight it.

All that said, the Crowned Heads La Imperiosa Double Robusto offered up a great smoking experience with bold and complex flavors. The La Imperiosa from 2015 earns a CigarScore 5.
