Initial Thoughts: In our search for the best cigars to pair with coffee, I stumbled upon the Drew Estate Liga Undercrown Shade, a cigar I’ve seen a lot of people talking about, but one I have yet to try.

After pulling the Undercrown Shade out of the cellophane and giving it a big sniff, I could smell wheat and grass. Not green grass, but grass that’s been aging under the sun for a few days.

With a punch, the draw was perfect, and I could taste Grape Nuts cereal. After torching the end, unlike the Sobremesa Brulee, the Undercrown Shade was not sweet, though it does have lots of flavor and not a hint of pepper.

    CigarScore: 5
    Brand: Drew Estate
    Line: Liga Undercrown, Shade
    Size: 6 x 52
    Cut: Punch
    Light: Torch

    Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut
    Binder: Indonesian Sumatra
Filler: Dominican Republic Criollo ’98, Nicaraguan Corojo & Criollo
    Smoke Time: 86 minutes

Through the middle of the cigar, the flavors remained good. I could taste hints of very light honey which was very pleasant. The draw was still excellent, and the burn was even.

    Final Thoughts:

This Drew Estate Liga Undercrown Shade Gran Toro was a great cigar. The construction was fantastic. The draw was amazing. And I really enjoyed the medium/bold flavors that reminded me of Grape Nuts cereal and sometimes even Cheerios. There was also the occasional hint of sweetness.

I would definitely smoke the Liga Undercrown Shade again, and this cigar earns a CigarScore 5.
